Augustyn, 28, arrived at Tynecastle last June on a one-year deal. He has made 27 appearances so far this season but may have already played his last game in maroon. A back injury leaves him sidelined for Thursday night’s match against Aberdeen and he will still be doubtful for Sunday’s season-ending match with St Johnstone.

The centre-back thanked head coach Robbie Neilson and fans for their support and said he will continue to keep tabs on events in Gorgie after he leaves.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Hearts and had a really positive experience in Edinburgh,” he told the club’s website. “Robbie, the coaching staff and my team-mates have all been very supportive during my time here and it’s been a pleasure to play alongside them.

“The supporters have been great too and they’ve given me many great memories to take away with me. I will always look out for Hearts’ results in the future, and I wish everyone connected to the club all the best going forward.”

Neilson praised Augustyn’s contribution this season as Hearts qualified for European competition despite being Scottish Premiership’s newly-promoted club.

“Blazej came in and has been a really important part of the team,” said Neilson. “Our defence is the second best in the Premiership and he has played a major part in that. He’s helped improve the team and taken us to the next level, so he leaves with our best wishes.”
