Bo'ness United boss Allan McGonigal has warned their title rivals that his side will be ready to take advantage of any slip-up.

The BUs are level with Bonnyrigg Rose at the top of the Super League, although the Midlothian men have two games in hand. McGonigal was hoping the New Dundas Park men would progress in the Junior Scottish Cup against Pollok last weekend so they would have more games to contend with towards the end of the campaign.

“The league is getting a wee bit tighter at the moment and we’re quite comfortable,” said McGonigal whose side host Broxburn Athletic tomorrow. “Bonnyrigg are in the ascendancy, I was surprised at their result at the weekend and for a selfish point of view I wanted them to be in the cup for as long as possible because they might have took their focus off the games in hand.

“Hopefully we can keep ourselves focused for the rest of the season. We’re in the pack at the moment, we are right in there. If Bonnyrigg lost a game then it would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons for us all, it would then be a case of who can handle the run-in best.

“Kelty have got a fantastic squad of players at the moment so I’d imagine they will certainly be up there and Lithgae, once they get their heads regrouped, I think they won’t be far away either. It augurs well for being the best title race in a long time, with a lot of teams having ambitions of winning the league.”

McGonigal’s squad is unrecognisable to that which last won the Super League two seasons ago. The latest long-serving player to depart was striker Darren Gribben, with the experienced frontman expressing his wish for a new challenge and he’s linked up with former Bo’ness assistant Steve Kerrigan at West outfit Arthurlie.

Striker Fraser Eddington has arrived from Stenhousemuir while McGonigal has snapped up forward James McAteer from Falkirk Juniors. They are both in contention for a home debut at Newtown Park tomorrow.

Fraser Keast is out for the match against his former club with a long-term knee injury, although McGonigal hopes to have Will Snowdon back.
