The Evening News has learned that McGonigal informed seven first-team regulars after training on Monday night – including club captain Chris Donnelly – that they would be free to find a new club at the end of the season.

Five defenders – Stewart Devine, Stuart Hunter, Will Snowdon, Ross Campbell and Scott Gibb, along with former Hearts midfielder Robert Sloan and Donnelly, have been told they have no future at the club.

The news has thrown the Super League side into disarray ahead of their local derby away to fierce rivals Linlithgow Rose this Saturday, although the seven players are still expected to feature at Prestonfield.

Midfielder Ian Nimmo was transfer-listed last month after a disagreement with McGonigal and subsequently joined west outfit Arthurlie on loan until the end of the season.
