Bonnyrigg just two victories from the Super League title

Bonnyrigg Rose are now just two victories away from the Super League title after a 2-0 success away to local rivals Newtongrange Star last night.

They extended their lead at the league summit to 11 points thanks to goals from strike duo Wayne McIntosh and Kieran McGachie in a dominant display at New Victoria Park.

Rose Defender Dean Hoskins tested Kieron Renton in the Star goal with a half-volley attempt from outside the area after 34 minutes as the visitors enjoyed all the territory in the opening period.

McIntosh ensured their efforts were rewarded on the stroke of half-time as he pounded to head in McGachie’s flick on from three yards out.

McGachie then displayed fine striking instinct to tap home the rebound from Adam Nelson’s free-kick ten minutes from time and make sure of the points.

Bo’ness United thumped local rivals Linlithgow Rose 4-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the East of Scotland Cup. First-half goals from Will Snowdon, Jack Simpson and Marty Wright had the home side cruising at the break. Chris Donnelly added a fourth in the second half to set up at last-eight clash away to Dalkeith Thistle.

Arniston Rangers dealt a blow to Haddington Athletic’s hopes of promotion to the Super League with a 3-2 triumph at Newbyres Park. Easthouses Lily suffered a 6-1 defeat at Dundonald Bluebell in the East of Scotland Cup.
