Celtic-daft dad helped Osman Kakay decide on Livingston move

New Livingston defender Osman Kakay has revealed he was sold on the move to West Lothian by his Celtic-supporting father.

The teenager has joined on loan until the end of the season from English Championship outfit QPR and made his debut for the Lions in the 1-0 defeat at Dumbarton last Saturday.

Kakay has also had his contract at the west London club extended until next year but manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was keen to send the 18-year-old out on loan to get some valuable game time.

And, when Livi boss David Hopkin put the call in to take him north, Kakay says his dad’s fondness for the Scottish game convinced him he was making the right choice.

“My dad watches the Scottish leagues so he’s told me a lot about it,” Kakay said. “He’s a big Celtic fan so he told me the ins and outs of the country and the football teams that are up here, especially in this league with both Rangers and Hibs so he felt it would be a really good move for me. Hibs are our next match at home so that will be a huge test for us but I’m really looking forward to being involved.”

The youngster slotted into the right-back position against the Sons but carried a real threat going forward. Although disappointed not to get his Livi career off to a winning start, Kakay senses better results are just around the corner.

“I didn’t expect it to be so windy against Dumbarton but it was a great experience for me to make my Livingston debut,” he said. “Yes, the weather wasn’t great but that’s the whole point in me coming in on loan to get games. The goal we lost was unfortunate but I thought we played well and deserved to take something. There were doubts over the match itself but I was pleased it went ahead because I got to play.

“There’s a good bunch of lads within the dressing-room and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so far. I want to play as much as I can here so when I go back to QPR I’m ready to challenge for a place in the first team next season.”
