City return to winning ways

CITY OF EDINBURGH passed a character examination as they returned to winning ways in the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League.

After surrendering their 17-match unbeaten record to Kilmarnock Blaze the previous weekend, the league leaders lost the opening set of their match against Bon Accord in Aberdeen.

It meant Edinburgh had to dig deep but they passed the test with flying colours to win the next three sets and win the match 3-1.

On a good weekend for the club, City of Edinburgh II also moved a step closer to promotion to the First Division with a 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 15-9 win at Bellshill Cardinals.

In the women’s First Division, City of Edinburgh comfortably won at North Lanarkshire – 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 – to stay second.

But it looks like they will need to settle for the No. 2 seeding in the play-offs with leaders Troon PA also having a comfortable win.

They came through 25-18, 25-22, 25-13 at Su Ragazzi which means they are now unlikely to be overhauled for top spot and the important No. 1 seeding for the play-offs.
