Dalkeith confident they can spring a surprise

Dalkeith Thistle assistant boss Kevin Haynes believes the experience within their ranks will hold them in good stead as they bid to upset Ayrshire giants Hurlford United in the Scottish Junior Cup.

The Jags visit Blair Park tomorrow with the odds firmly stacked against them, but Haynes, who revealed they will line up with a view to attacking the 2013/14 winners of the competition, is confident they can spring a surprise given they have several players in their squad who have reached the latter stages before.

“Duff [David Hay] has played in the Junior Cup final, [Paul] Tansey has played in the Junior Cup final and so has Michael Hunter,” said Haynes, who lifted the cup with Bathgate Thistle back in 2008.

“Craig O’Reilly has played in the latter stages although he’s cup tied, so there’s a lot of experience within our squad not just in Junior football but in the Junior Cup.

“It’s going to help all the younger guys in the squad when we’ve got players with such experience.

“We aren’t going there just to make up the numbers. We are going to go there to try and cause an upset – we’ll go and have a go.”

Haynes will take charge of the King’s Park outfit alongside Andy Donlevy and Jamie Burrell.
