SCOTLAND captain Darren Fletcher has returned to the national squad for next month’s friendly with Poland after fighting illness.
Manager Gordon Strachan also called up 19-year-old Dundee United left-back Andrew Robertson for the first time for the match in Warsaw on March 5.
Sunderland’s full-back Phil Bardsley is back almost two years since his last international appearance against the United States in May 2012. However, in-form St Johnstone striker Stevie May has been overlooked, as have the Aberdeen pairing of Mark Reynolds and Peter Pawlett and Hearts goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald.
Dalkeith-born Fletcher, 30, last played for Scotland 15 months ago in a friendly win over Luxembourg. Ulcerative colitis interrupted his club career with Manchester United and his international prowess with Scotland. He is now fit to return.
