“It was quite cold,” he said. “An early morning chill - the things you have to do to follow hibs! But I’ve got the tickets, so I got what I wanted.”

Mr Haggarty, 51, from Dalkeith, said his dad had first taken him to a game at Easter Road when he was about five.

He had a season ticket for 26 years, but can’t always get to matches now because his job as a shunter on the railways means a lot of weekend working.

He has booked a long weekend to make sure he gets to the Cup Final.

He’ll be taking wife Carrie, daughter Lori, 21, and son Jabe, 10, with him.

“We lost the League Cup final and lost to Falkirk in the play-offs, so hopefully it will be third time lucky,” he said. “But I’m not counting my chickens.”
