Two points are all that separate Edinburgh City from the Lowland League title after last night’s 1-0 win at BSC Glasgow.
Whitehill Welfare’s four-goal rout of Gretna 24 hours earlier meant that City could not be crowned champions at Lochburn Park, but Gerry O’Connell’s second half own goal meant a fourth straight 1-0 win and a chance for a title party Dalbeattie on Sunday.
They were made to work, and no doubt breathed a sigh of relief when a second half BSC penalty came back off the post.
Ortega Deniran came closest to opening the scoring in an even first 45, Bruno Maltoni producing an excellent save to keep out the Nigerian’s volley on half-time. City broke the deadlock four minutes after the interval, O’Connell heading into his own net despite home claims for an offside.
Iain King’s side spurned a golden opportunity to level from the spot after 63 minutes. Ross McKinnon sent Andrew Stobie the wrong way, only to watch the ball come crashing back off the upright.
