Eight is just great for Hibs Ladies boss Roberts

“In all my time at Hibs, it’s probably the most comprehensive result we’ve had against Aberdeen. I never expected us to run out 8-0 winners but the girls were fantastic. We controlled the game and we dealt well with any pressure they put us under.

“We took advantage of their high line with our pace, but we spoke at half-time about getting the timing right and running from a bit deeper to try and spring the offside trap and get in behind more.”

Hibs took the lead early on through Sarah Ewens before Lizzie Arnot scored minutes later to make it 2-0. Ewens then capitalised on a defensive error to score her second of the afternoon before half-time.

The second half didn’t get any easier for Aberdeen when Lucy Graham headed in at the back post just six minutes after the restart to make it 4-0. Graham was then brought down inside the box and the referee awarded a spot-kick, which allowed Arnot the opportunity to score her second and Hibs’ fifth.

There was then a flurry of goals for the Hibees with three goals in just six minutes. The first came for Cailin Michie – returning from injury as a second-half substitute – as Arnot’s ball into the box set her up for a volley into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, Emma Brownlie got Hibs’ seventh from a simple header before Rachel Mclauchlan rounded the goalkeeper and tapped home to complete the scoring.

Elsewhere in SWPL 1, Spartans manager Suzy Shepherd was thrilled to watch her side come out 3-0 winners over Forfar Farmington.

“We’re delighted to get back to winning ways after a hard couple of weeks,” said Shepherd. “The girls did excellent from start to finish. We scored some good goals. Overall, it was a good team performance and we’re delighted with three points.”

In SWPL 2, Hearts came from a goal behind to thrash Inverness City 10-1 and stay on Hamilton’s coat tails in second. Hutchison Vale could only muster a point in a 3-3 draw away to Buchan.
