The East of Scotland League leaders were looking to establish a 15-point gap at the top, with nearest challengers Spartans not playing as their clash at Civil Service Strollers fell victim to the weather.

And Derek Riddel’s side were once again in a menacing mood as they started 2016 with a crushing victory, Martin netting two goals within the first half hour, Neil Lowson and Kerr Allan scoring just before half-time.

Martin completed his hat-trick on 50 minutes. Greig Tulloch pulled one back for Craigroyston nine minutes later but Lewis Tracey netted Leith’s sixth goal on 77 minutes. Man of the match Martin completed the rout with his fourth goal of the game in injury time.

Leith are unbeaten at home and have scored 64 league goals for the loss of just 12.

In the other weekend fixtures that survived the weather, Tynecastle registered their third consecutive win after a 1-0 victory over Hawick Royal Albert at Riccarton 3G.

Despite playing the second half with ten men following the dismissal of Scott Coleman, a Stewart Adams free-kick handed Tynie the points and head coach Steve Vinter was delighted to get the three points which keeps the Saughton Enclosure side in fifth place.

“We had a slow start and Ross McMullen had to make two important saves early doors but, once we got into our stride, we played some excellent football against a side who are never easy to play against.

“The free kick was well taken by Stewart, we did a lot of video analysis in training and practice but, when they score goals like that in games, you don’t need the practice,” added Vinter, who intends to appeal Coleman’s red card.

Heriot-Watt University missed the chance to draw level with Tynecastle as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Riccarton by Stirling University.

Chris Donnelly made it 19 East of Scotland goals for the season with a brace for the students. Ormiston’s match at Burntisland Shipyard fell foul of the weather.
