O’Connor is facing an allegation of dropping his trousers and exposing himself at a hotel in North Berwick, East Lothian, in June 2018.

The 37-year-old is also said to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks during the same incident.

The retired footballer was due to stand trial on the charges at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on February 2 but the trial has now been adjourned to July 18.

O’Connor - who scored four times in 16 appearances for Scotland - was excused attendance at the capital court for a hearing today and the new trial date was set in his absence.

Procurator fiscal depute Sarah Quinn told the court all outstanding evidence, including CCTV footage of the alleged incident, has now been passed on to his defence team and the Crown were ready for trial.

O’Connor, from North Berwick, denies committing an act of public indecency by removing his trousers and underwear to expose himself while in a public place at the Marine Hotel, North Berwick, on June 30, 2018.

He also denies behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks during the same incident.

O’Connor exploded on to the scene at Easter Road in 2002 and four years later moved to Lokomotiv Moscow for £1.6 million when he was just 22. He eventually moved back to the UK to play for Birmingham City and was forced to give up the game due to a hip problem.
