Ryan Gay has been at Penicuik for ten years

The midfielder, an ex-Hearts youth, will line-up for Penicuik against several former Tynecastle favourites including Scotland internationalists Christophe Berra and Lee Wallace.

“Penicuik are a great club,” said the 29-year-old. “Although I’ve not played at a lot of clubs in the Junior ranks, I know a lot of players and managers and I think you’ll go a long way to find somewhere else that is run as well as Penicuik. The professionalism of the club is probably what has kept me there for a long time.

“I’ve been discussing a new contract with Penicuik for the last wee while now. I’ve had a couple of offers from elsewhere, not that I particularly want to leave or anything like that, but I’m not sure to be honest.”

Gay had hoped to include 2012 Scottish Cup final hero Ryan McGowan in the Hearts line-up but the defender is in China with Henan Jianye. Jamie MacDonald and Andy Driver would also have featured.

Gay continued: “We would’ve had a hell of a line-up if there wasn’t various events on, for example the play-off final on Sunday. A couple of my mates play there, Jamie MacDonald and Paul Watson. Andy Driver was to play but his team in Holland got dragged into the play-offs as well.”

Kick-off is 2.30pm at Penicuik Park on Sunday, with entry £5 for adults.
