Hearts to meet Robbie Muirhead for talks next week

Hearts officials will meet Robbie Muirhead next week to discuss a possible move to Tynecastle. The former Kilmarnock and Dundee United forward is available as a free agent and would jump at the chance to sign for the Edinburgh club.

Coaching staff believe Muirhead could represent a worthwhile signing as a young player with the potential to develop and improve. They intend to hold detailed talks with the 20-year-old before deciding whether to offer him a contract for next season.

Muirhead has represented Scotland at under-15, under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 level. A highly-regarded product of Kilmarnock’s youth academy, he was sold to Dundee United in February 2015 for £150,000. Celtic were also interested in him at the time.

He failed to make an impression at Tannadice and spent four months of last season on loan at Partick Thistle. He was released from his three-and-a-half-year United contract in April and is now looking for a new club. A move to Hearts, with the chance to play European football, would appeal to the youngster as he tries to rejuvenate his promising career.

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson has already agreed to sign Irish striker Conor Sammon after losing both Osman Sow and Abiola Dauda from his forward line in recent months. Muirhead’s versatility means he can provide different options as a striker or out wide.

Next week’s talks will go a long way to deciding the next chapter of the player’s career.
