granty the red: “If all 3 of them end up there I might just have to arrange a trip to 1 of their games just to give Stendel and co the support they deserve.”

MarioKempes: “I genuinely hope he takes it, gives jobs to Stern and Tonge and goes on to really upset the ugly sister status quo in Scotland. I'd love him to succeed up there.”

Jay: “There's a belief by many that last season we had the best players and hence we got promoted. We had some good players (all but Mowatt and Woodrow we, ahem, lost) but so did a number of other clubs. And we had some average ones. We had a good manager. I think he'll do well.”

Django: “Wish them all well. Cracking city to live in & a league on the up. Always a gamble going to the unknown but Stendel’s already done that previously in joining us.”

Trickster Two Six: “Great coach, wish him well, may become my second team now”

Reds Fan: “I can’t be bothered but can someone sign up for their (Hearts fans’) forum, apologise for our board and tell them they’ve got a gem of a bloke as their new manager”

@ucantbuytime: “The most likeable, successful manager we’ve had in ages. He felt like one of our own.”

@Jagzz88: “Best manager we’ve had in 20 years auto promotion, best defence in EFL & unbeaten at home all season. Thrown under bus by shameless board who’s sole agenda is asset stripping. Gutted but you deserve better than this shower all the best Stendel”

@BFC_Luke: “I'd like to thank Daniel Stendel for giving us some of the best football I've seen a Barnsley team play during my lifetime. Imagine how good we could have been if he was backed properly this summer.”

Kate Smith: One of the best managers we've had in a long time and, as usual, players were sold and not replaced with similar quality. He asked for experienced players but didn't get them. The fans are fully behind him and wish him well. My guess is that he won't remain unemployed for long.

Mark Lawson: You bring in a Manager, Stendel, and allow him to bring in his own players and what do you get... Promotion. You take that power away from him and this is what happens. A manager is employed for his football knowledge, owners are there to see to the business side.... not rocket science

Fans’ group the Barnsley FC Supporters Trust said: “We would like to go on record thanking Daniel for not only gaining promotion from League One in his first season in charge, and first season in England, but for immersing himself in the town, the values it holds, and the football club. We gained promotion to the Championship last season playing wonderful, attacking football, combined with a sense of togetherness that brought some fantastic memories for many supporters.”
