The on-loan Genoa attacker has featured only once in the past two months after being plagued by knee trouble but is in contention to start in the Edinburgh derby. With key pair Kyle Lafferty and John Souttar both doubtful participants due to injuries sustained in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Celtic, the return of Milinkovic, who has scored six times in his last 13 appearances, would represent a welcome boost for Craig Levein.

“I’m hopeful that we’ll have David back,” the manager told the Evening News. “He might have made the bench on Sunday but I think the extra few days will have definitely put him in a better position to play.”

Levein, meanwhile, hopes Hearts can bounce back from the “irritation” of losing their unbeaten record at Tynecastle on Sunday by finishing their home campaign with a victory over a Hibs side who are likely to need a win to stay in the race for second place in the Premiership. “We just want to win the game,” said the manager. “It’s got nothing to do with what they’re doing. It’s a derby match and we want to win, simple as that.”
