Hamilton confirm new deal for ex-Hearts and Rangers star David Templeton

David Templeton has signed a new two-year contract with Hamilton Academical.

The ex-Hearts and Rangers star penned a short-term deal in January after being released from his Burton Albion contract.

It was revealed on the Only Accies podcast by club chairman Allan Maitland that they had secured the player’s services for a further two years.

The 31-year-old joined the English side from Accies in the summer of 2018 after emerging as a talismanic figure for the South Lanarkshire side.

He had been without a club for nearly a year when he signed for Hamilton in March 2017 following his release from Rangers in 2016.

Injuries had plagued the end of the player’s time at Rangers. From his final appearance for the Ibrox side to his Hamilton debut he went 645 days without playing football.

Earlier this month, Templeton, who will remembered most at Hearts for his goal against Liverpool in the Europa League, revealed to the Evening News he was in talks over a new deal.

He said that the only reason he left Hamilton in the first place was to “try England” before he retired.

“I enjoy it there and it's close to home, so it's ideal,” Templeton said.

"I think it will just be a case of waiting until we are back out and maybe we can get something sorted then. We're obviously not allowed into the club just now, so we just need to wait until we get the green light to go in again. I'll speak to them then and hopefully we will get something done."
