Hearts’ fixtures against Kilmarnock and Motherwell, scheduled to be played at Tynecastle in August, will now be played away from home.

The SPFL announced today that the Jambos will face Killie at Rugby Park on Saturday, August 12 and the Steelmen at Fir Park on Saturday, August 26, giving the Capital team a run of four away fixtures to begin the new Ladbrokes Premiership campaign.

The move is to allow building work to be completed on Tynecastle’s new main stand before it is officially opened in September.

Hearts’ home matches against Kilmarnock and Motherwell will now be played on November 4 and December 9 respectively.

The Gorgie club were widely expected to be handed four away games to start the season when the SPFL released the 2017-18 fixtures last Friday. However, when league bosses announced the two August home fixtures at Tynecastle, Hearts fans and officials alike were left baffled.

Hearts begin the season with a trip to face champions Celtic on August 5 and take on Rangers at Ibrox a fortnight later.
