Hearts are close to signing Morgaro Gomis, Neil Alexander and James Keatings and hope to finalise contracts for all three over the weekend.

The Edinburgh club then plan to announce the new signings as soon as they exit administration, which should happen by the end of next week at the latest.

Gomis was close to completing negotiations on his move last night after his release from Dundee United. The 28-year-old French midfielder is wanted by Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson to add experience to a young midfield for next season.

Keatings has already verbally agreed to join Hearts from Hamilton, but Tynecastle officials need to determine whether the Lanarkshire club want compensation. If not, the 22-year-old former Celtic striker will complete his move to Edinburgh. Should Hamilton insist on payment, the deal may hit a stumbling block.

Negotiations for Alexander are progressing well but are not yet finalised. He has been offered a player-coach role by Hearts after leaving Crystal Palace. At 36, he is keen to play regularly, but Neilson would also like to recruit another goalkeeper to challenge for the No.1 jersey.

In a further bout of good news for Hearts supporters, the club are expected to announce within the next week that youngsters Gary Oliver and Sam Nicholson have both agreed new contracts.

Another of Neilson’s signing targets, Darren McGregor, has been offered a more lucrative deal by Rangers, which he is considering.

Hearts have put a contract offer to the player but realise they cannot compete with the money being spoken about at Ibrox. Nonetheless, they have not given up hope on the 28-year-old former St Mirren centre-back and will contact him again should the Rangers proposal fall through.
