Hearts’ friendly against Fleetwood Town, due to be played this Saturday at Tynecastle, has been called off, the Gorgie club has announced.

A statement on the Hearts website read: “Hearts’ pre-season friendly against Fleetwood Town, scheduled for this Saturday, has been postponed indefinitely due to circumstances outwith the club’s control.

“The club is now attempting to make alternative arrangements with regards to a friendly match on Saturday, and will make a further announcement in due course.

“Hearts supporters wishing to seek refunds for tickets purchased for Saturday’s cancelled pre-season friendly against Fleetwood Town should contact the Hearts Ticket Centre directly.”

Earlier today, Pressley – a former Hearts captain and Scottish Cup winner – stood down as manager of the of the Skybet League One club.

The ex-Coventry boss, 42, had only been in charge at Fleetwood for nine months after replacing Graham Alexander in October last year.

“Fleetwood Town can confirm we have agreed to accept the resignation of manager Steven Pressley,” the club said in a statement on their official website.

“The decision was made (on Tuesday morning) following a meeting with the 42-year-old where it was agreed it would be best to take the club in a different direction.

“Fleetwood Town would like to thank Steven for his professionalism and effort during his nine months at Highbury, particularly in successfully maintaining the club’s League One status last season.

“Our focus will now turn to the prompt recruitment of a new manager to take the club forward.”

Fleetwood sacked predecessor Alexander in September last year after the club had won only two of their first 10 games to lie 20th in the table.

Pressley was unable to steer them clear of a relegation battle, but League One survival was secured on the final day with victory against Crewe.
