Glenn Whelan has found himself a new club after leaving Tynecastle in the January transfer window.

The Irish international has joined Fleetwood Town until the end of the season. The League One side are managed by former Rangers flop Joey Barton.

The experienced midfielder joined Hearts in the summer and initially impressed with his composure and passing in the centre of the park.

However, his performances took a turn for the worse as the Gorgie Road outfit slid down the table.

The 36-year-old had his one-year contract mutually terminated earlier this month after being told he would not be a part of new manager Daniel Stendel's plans.

Barton welcomed the signing, telling Fleetwood's website: "When the opportunity arose to bring someone of Glenn’s experience in to our squad, we moved quickly to get the deal done.

“Glenn is hungry to play and we’re sure that he will bring the qualities that everyone knows he is capable of into our group."
