Hearts are interested in signing Tranmere Rovers striker Cole Stockton, who is wanted by clubs in both England and Scotland.

The 23-year-old is considering a move north having so far refused the offer a new contract at Prenton Park.

His existing deal there has expired and he is now a free agent.

Hearts are aware of Stockton’s availability and believe he would be a useful option as part of next season’s squad. Motherwell are also monitoring the situation.

Stockton is 6ft 1ns tall and scored ten goals in 26 games on loan at League Two Morecambe between August and December last season.

He then returned to Tranmere and struck eight times in their final 11 games as they narrowly missed out on promotion from the National League.

That rich vein of form earned him a growing list of suitors and Hearts are aware he has interest from elsewhere. They will decide over the next few days whether to offer him a deal.

The Merseyside-born forward, who previously spent time on loan at Southport, is keen to seek pastures new. He has told sources south of the Border that he will likely continue his career in Scotland.

Key to his exact destination will be the chance to play regularly at first-team level and establish himself as first-choice striker.

• Hearts have confirmed they will visit both Dublin and Belfast in July before the Betfred Cup campaign begins. A week-long pre-season trip has been booked from July 3-9, including a friendly against Linfield at Windsor Park on Saturday, July 8.
