Late interest from Hearts was not enough to convince Matty Kennedy to make the move to Edinburgh.

Kennedy had been set to sign for the Dons until Hearts entered the frame, wanting to bring him to Tynecastle this month.

It was understood they tried to use Christophe Berra, who is no longer in the plans of Hearts boss Daniel Stendel, as part of the deal.

The former Hibs winger's switch to Pittodrie was confirmed by Aberdeen late on Wednesday evening, signing a three-year deal.

The Dons were hopeful of getting him in the door before the month is out, but with St Johnstone and Tommy Wright desperate to keep the player, he won't make the move until the summer.

Meanwhile, Stendel revealed to Hearts TV on Tuesday that the club are close to making a signing.

He said: "I hope we can give some news and bring some players in. We are very close to signing and I hope, in the next days, we can say 'yes'."
