HEARTS were crowned winners of the Scottish Championship today as Hibs lost 2-0 against Rangers at Easter Road.

The Tynecastle side did not play having beaten Falkirk 3-0 yesterday afternoon but had their title triumph confirmed without kicking a ball.

Hibs needed to win this afternoon to postpone their rivals’ coronation. Their defeat – via goals from ex-Jambo Lee Wallace and former Hibee Kenny Miller – means Hearts cannot be caught at the top of the table and have guaranteed promotion back to the Scottish Premiership at the first time of asking. In head coach Robbie Neilson’s first season in charge, they have lost only one league match so far.

Neilson stated earlier this week that he wanted to win the league at Tynecastle next Saturday against Queen of the South. Today’s scoreline at Easter Road means Hearts will now walk out to a capacity home crowd as league champions in what will be a party atmosphere.
