Hearts legend John Robertson today spoke of enormous pride at seeing McCrae’s Battalion inducted into Scottish football’s Hall of Fame.

The current Hearts Under-17s coach, who scored more than 200 goals during his two spells in Gorgie, is delighted the volunteers recruited by Sir George McCrae during the First World War – as many as 500 Hearts fans and more than a dozen of the club’s players, as well as Hibs fans and players from Raith, Dunfermline and Falkirk – have been honoured again for serving their country.

“It’s such a unique story – it’s wonderful they’ve been honoured,” said Robertson. “It’s a huge part of the club’s history.”
