Hearts’ administrators have renegotiated a deal to ensure the club continue to enjoy use of their training facilities at Heriot-Watt University.
It had been reported that BDO had questioned the cost-effectiveness of paying rent of up to £400,000 a year to remain at Riccarton, where the club have worked from since 2004. Being forced to leave the state-of-the-art facility would have been a severe blow to Hearts’ youth Academy which has become one of the club’s primary assets since it fell on hard financial times.
However, after negotiations yesterday, it emerged that an “amicable agreement” had been reached to keep the Jambos in their west Edinburgh base.
The club initially agreed a 25-year lease with the university almost a decade ago, when the £6.5 million facility was built. The new deal spares Hearts the prospect of having to go back to training on public parks, as they did prior to 2004.
