Igor Rossi has extended his Hearts contract to remain at Tynecastle until 2017.
The Brazilian defender signed a one-year deal when he arrived in Edinburgh in the summer but, after a series of assured performances, he has committed himself for another year.
Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson has been impressed by Rossi’s qualities in central defence and he has played in every league game so far.
With captain Alim Ozturk out injured, the former Maritimo player has been a reliable performer at the back and has earned himself a new deal.
Rossi told the Hearts website: “I’m very happy to have signed a new contract, which will keep me here until the end of next season.
“The manager has shown great faith in me and I’m delighted that he wants to keep me.
“The team has played well so far this season and I’m happy to be getting game time, but I know we can get even better. I’d also like to thank the fans for their support. They have been very good with me and to play in front of full houses has been great.
“I hope that we can get another sell-out on Saturday against Inverness and we can pick up another three points.”
