Andy Webster and Ian Black scoop Hearts awards

ANDY WEBSTER has been named Players’ Player of the Year by Hearts, while midfielder Ian Black collected the Supporters’ Player of the Year award and Goal of the Season for his memorable effort against Rangers at Ibrox.

At a glittering ceremony at Tynecastle last night, Webster was honoured by his colleagues who voted him their player of the season. The centre-back has been in commanding form throughout the campaign and has led by example with two goals against Hibs included in his tally. He has rediscovered his best form since rejoining Hearts last year and was rightly recognised with an award at the end of a season in which he has made 38 appearances in all competitions to date.

Black took the honours of Supporters’ Player of the Year and Goal of the Season, the latter sponsored by the Hearts Former Players’ Association. The midfielder’s consistency this year saw him touted for international recognition by the Tynecastle management team. His goal in the 2-1 win at Ibrox in March stuck out as the campaign’s most memorable strike.

Jamie MacDonald’s point-blank save from Charlie Mulgrew during last month’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over Celtic earned him the Save of the Season award. Craig Beattie’s unforgettable celebration after scoring the decisive penalty in the same game brought him the Most Memorable Moment of the Year honour.

Finally, there was an award for fans’ favourite Ryan McGowan. He collected the Big Hearts Community Award for dedication on and off the pitch, having attended many coaching and community events throughout the season.
