Hampden ‘is right place to play final’

HEARTS defender Andy Webster insisted today that there’s no better place to play the Scottish Cup final than Hampden.

With both the Tynecastle side and city rivals Hibs booking their places in the May showpiece at the weekend, there have been calls for the game to be moved to Murrayfield.

However Webster, who lifted the trophy as captain of Dundee United two years ago, can’t wait to travel back through to Glasgow and believes that the national stadium is the right venue for the occasion.

“I know there have been calls to move the final to Murrayfield but I’m happy at Hampden,” he said. “This is what you want. This is where you want to play. I’ve played at Murrayfield with Hearts in previous times, in Europe, but Hampden is the national stadium – it’s the right place to play the Cup final.”

Webster knows that the atmosphere in the derby final will be white-hot but is hoping that his previous experiences will help the younger members of the Hearts squad deal with the occasion, adding: “Having lifted the trophy as captain of Dundee United, I know this is going to be a great occasion. An Edinburgh derby final is incredible, it doesn’t get much bigger. It’s how you deal with that.”
