Hearts eye Cypriot pair

HEARTS have been offered the chance to sign two promising young Cypriot players for free this summer.

Charalambos Demosthenous and Stelios Dimitriou, both 21, are key members of the Cyrpus Under-21 team and are expected to make their full international debuts later this year. Hearts have been alerted to their availability and are interested in watching both players in action before making a decision.

Demosthenous is a skilful winger who can operate on either flank. He is regarded as a prodigious talent in Cyprus and currently plays with the second division club AE Paphos. He is expected to leave Paphos this summer and would be interested in moving to the UK.

Dimitriou is a left-sided player who is also comfortable at full-back or left midfield and plays for Ermis Aradippou. Following the club’s relegation to the second division, he is also likely to depart for pastures new.

Top Cypriot clubs are keen to recruit both players and have been monitoring them throughout the season. However, Hearts have been given the option to sign them for free, which may appeal to directors of the Edinburgh club as they focus more on recruiting and developing younger players.

Tynecastle officials are not expected to make fresh decisions on squad reorganisation until next month. Their focus remains on the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final with Celtic and attempting to qualify for Europe through their Scottish Premier League placing.

Decisions on who will be released and who could arrive in time for next season are expected at the start of May.
