Hearts fans give their views on Sunday’s 2 - 0 defeat to Rangers

Matt Calder, Stockbridge: “It wasn’t a bad performance by Hearts at all but we were made to pay for our lack of cutting edge. I thought that we matched Rangers for long spells but if you don’t score goals then you can’t win games. It’s at times like this that I can’t understand why John Sutton has been completely frozen out by Paulo Sergio.”

George Tulley, Gorgie: “On another day, we would have beaten Rangers quite easily but we gave away two really bad goals and I think that Adrian Mrowiec’s miss proved to be a major turning point. We were on top at that stage and if it had gone 1-1, we’d have had a real chance to beat them. Very disappointing but we must bounce back as soon as possible.”

Scott Malone, Liberton: “We have put in poorer performances than that this season and won the game. I thought that we showed plenty of battling spirit and we really took the game to Rangers. We didn’t get many breaks in front of goal but you make your own luck at times. We desperately need a proven goalscorer.”

Graham Preston, Westfield: “I feel that we have really let Rangers off the hook here because they are a very ordinary side and we should have taken points off them. The defending for both goals was schoolboy level.”

Alexander Martin, Penicuik: “We played well enough in spells but there’s a lack of inspiration in the team at the moment. For all of our possession, Rangers always looked quite comfortable and we never forced McGregor into action often enough for my liking. We need to be more clinical in the final third.”

Iain Martin, Penicuik: “We deserved at least a draw out of the game. I thought that we were the better side in the first half but they scored against the run of play and it was the same story after the break. The referee’s insistence on booking our players but not their players didn’t help but that’s par for the course against the Old Firm.”

Steph Wilson, Ingliston: “I’m gutted that we’ve lost the game. I can barely remember a time when we’ve controlled a match against Rangers as much at Tynecastle but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net. It was just one of those days for us.”

Thomas Parry, Craiglockhart: “We were probably the better team but they took their chances and we didn’t - that was the big difference. For me, too much pressure is being put on Ryan Stevenson to try to get the goals for us. I would like to see Sutton come back into contention to give Stevenson some support – especially when we’re at home.”

David Galbraith, Dalry: “I’m obviously disappointed that we’ve lost the game but there were a few positives to take out of the performance and if we keep playing as we did here then we’ll win more than we’ll lose. We’re back at Tynecastle next week and it’s really important that we bounce back and win that game.”

Gary Gibson, Inch: “It’s a match that we probably shouldn’t have lost but missed chances proved to be our downfall. The match highlighted our need for a natural goalscorer. We don’t have someone who we can rely on to put the ball in the net week in, week out. In Naismith and Jelavic, Rangers have two of them and, in all honesty, that was the only difference between the sides.”

Shaun Gibson, Inch: “We’ve had a great record at Tynecastle under Paulo Sergio and it’s disappointing to have lost that but at least we didn’t go down without a fight. Other than the two goals, I cannot remember Marian Kello having a save to make.”
