Redknapp signs up to save Jambos

HEARTS’ bid to stay afloat will benefit from the support of 
Harry Redknapp, with the former Tottenham manager wasting no time in pledging cash to the new 1874 Fighting Fund, writes ANTHONY BROWN.

Redknapp became a cult hero of the Hearts support when his Spurs side faced the Tynecastle outfit in the Europa League 
14 months ago, and he hasn’t forgotten how the Jambos sang his name during the second leg at White Hart Lane.

As a result, he had no hesitation in offering his backing when Hearts legend Gary Mackay, a signatory of the 1874 Fighting Fund set up earlier this week, contacted him yesterday.

“Harry was more than happy to help out,” said Mackay. “When I asked if he would like to help us out, his response was ‘in a minute’. He had no hesitation in pledging to the fund.

“It’s a great gesture from a classy man.”

Redknapp follows a host of Hearts legends in backing the Fighting Fund, with the likes of Paul Hartley, Steven Pressley, Gilles Rousset, Stephane Adam, Tosh McKinlay and George Cowie already having vowed to do their bit. As revealed in yesterday’s Evening News, the 1874 Fighting Fund is an initiative spearheaded by Mackay and his old Hearts team-mate Scott Crabbe in conjunction with the Save Our Hearts group to help the club through its current financial woes. It will make cash available on a transparent basis to help the club.
