DANNY SWANSON scored a superb goal as Hearts’ Development side chalked up their first league win of the season with a deserved 2-0 victory over Dundee United at Ochilview.
The Tynecastle side began strongly with Robbie Buchanan having a shot saved by United goalkeeper Ryan Booth, who then produced another fine stop from a close-range Dario Zanatta header.
Hearts took the lead on 19 minutes with a brilliant 30-yard free kick from Swanson, the ex-United man, along with Gavin Reilly and Arnaud Djoum, gaining important game time.
Booth produced a another superb stop from a Daniel Baur header before Hearts doubled their lead on 31 minutes. Buchanan was fouled in the box and Zanatta scored from the penalty spot.
In the second half, a combination of fine saves from Booth – stopping efforts from Reilly, Ian Smith and Swanson – and poor passing in the final third, prevented Hearts from adding to their lead.
United forced two fine saves out of Hearts keeper Kelby Mason, who brilliantly turned an angled shot from Aiden Connolly round a post then produced a close-range stop from Jordan Moore.
