Hibs Ladies boss Chris Roberts was delighted with his side's response as the Capital outfit soared to a 6-0 victory over Aberdeen at Ainslie Park.

Despite a 4-2 win against Rangers in last weekend’s SWPL 1 league curtain-raiser, Roberts was critical of his side’s defending having afforded the Glasgow team faint hope with two late goals.

However, the Dons met a resolute back four that helped keep Jenna Fife’s goal in tact.

“It’s something we’ve talked about that we want to get better as a team,” Roberts said. “We don’t want to give our opposition any chances in games. We’re really good going forward so we want to make sure we’re difficult to break down. Clean sheets are huge for us.”

Scotland internationalist Lizzie Arnot, who stole the show for the Hibees with a hat-trick, said: “It was a strong right performance right throughout the team. We took our chances when they came and were clinical. It’s always good to be on the scoresheet, especially at this early stage in the season.”

Hibs are the early pacesetters after champions Glasgow City were held to a 1-1 draw with Celtic. Spartans, meanwhile, were 1-0 winners at Hamilton Accies thanks to Simone McMahon’s strike 12 minutes from time.

In SWPL 2, Hearts are joint top as they made it two wins in as many games with a 1-0 win at East Fife - Stacey Hutchison with the only goal of the afternoon. Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale lost 2-1 at Buchan Ladies.
