Hibs boss: Let's be greedy and target a treble

Alan Stubbs is delighted his team are still in the hunt for three trophies

The Easter Road outfit are one of only three in Scotland still in the hunt for all trophies they are involved in, chasing down Rangers for the Championship title, in the semi-finals of the League Cup and with a mouthwatering William Hill Scottish Cup last-16 clash against Hearts to come.

But, realistically, it’s only the Capital club and Celtic, who can dream of capturing three pieces of silverware, Ross County still retaining an interest in the two cup competitions but well out of the race for the Premiership.

While admitting it would be “terribly greedy” to think in such terms, Hibs head coach Stubbs said: “I don’t mind being greedy sometimes. We are right in the mix to gain promotion, we’re in the semi-finals of the League Cup and we’re in the Scottish Cup.

“We’re coming to the middle of January and we are in three major tournaments and that, I think, speaks volumes for how we are as a football club at this moment in time.

“We’re going to have difficult games, but exciting games. I have to say we have a great three-and-a-half months ahead of us. It could be a very exciting time.”

Hibs face the first of those tough games on Sunday when they travel to Falkirk, the Bairns currently second behind Rangers in the Championship table but only on goal difference from Stubbs’ side, who also have a game in hand.

However, while admitting there was “an element of pressure” about a match which could have a major bearing for both clubs, Stubbs insisted that came from those outside the club, saying: “As a coaching staff and players we trust ourselves. We believe in our ability as a team and, when you have that then I do not necessarily think you approach a game as a pressure. It’s more an antitipcation, an eagerness and hunger. There’s a desire among the players. They are approaching games with a belief and, when you have an inner-strength and belief, you approach games not with a ‘what if’ but an excitement. Every game, no matter what it is or what it’s for is a big game.

“People will look at certain games as being bigger than others, but I don’t. Since the turn of the year we have been on an important run. Sunday is a big game but then, before you know it, we have another big game the following week. When you are winning they all fall into the same category, we want to keep progressing so every week is a big game.
