Hibs Ladies head into the summer break top of SWPL 1 after picking up their tenth win of the season.

A resounding 8-0 victory over bottom club Aberdeen at Ainslie Park on Sunday ensured Chris Roberts’ side remain two points clear of reigning champions Glasgow City. Scott Booth’s outfit do, however, still have a game in hand.

There were seven different goalscorers with Lia Tweedie (2), Rachael Small, Kirsty Smith, Abi Harrison, Rachel McLauchlan, Ellis Notley and Cailin Michie all on target for the Capital outfit.

There is now a six-week hiatus before Hibs make a return to league action on Wednesday, August 9, against Spartans Women.

Spartans were also victorious over the weekend as they defeated Rangers 3-1 at New Tinto Park in Glasgow.

Goals from captain Bobbie Beveridge, Laura Gavin and Ellie Simpson helped Suzy Shepherd’s players leapfrog their opponents into fifth.

In SWPL 2, Hearts ran out 2-0 winners at Buchan to remain joint-third with Glasgow Girls – Ashley Carse and Katie Reilly netting for the Jambos. Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale picked up a point after a goalless draw at Glasgow Girls.

Meanwhile, Scotland head coach Anna Signeul will this morning announce her squad for next month’s UEFA European Championships in the Netherlands.

Hibs trio Joelle Murray, Kirsty Smith and Rachel McLauchlan are expected to be included in the travelling party.

Scotland have been drawn in Group D alongside England, Spain and Portugal. Scotland’s opening group match is against England in Utrecht on Wednesday, July 19.
