The talismanic midfielder has been key to the Easter Road side’s success as they battle for second place in the top flight in their return season after three years in the Championship.

Two Celtic players have been nominated. Captain Scott Brown makes the final four after being left off last year’s shortlist. He is joined by team-mate James Forrest. They are joined on the list by Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd. The 34-year-old is the current top goalscorer in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney is nominated for Young Player of the Year, and will be up against future team-mate Lewis Morgan, the star of St Mirren’s Championship title win, as well as Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna.

The winners will be announced on Sunday at PFA Scotland’s annual Awards Dinner in Glasgow.
