Heron and her team-mates romped to a whopping 19-0 defeat of Renfrew to book their place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, the 25-year-old PE teacher the standout performer chipping in with an impressive return of seven goals.

Now Heron says there is a real desire to replicate the feat of the men who ended their 114-year hoodoo when a David Gray injury-time winner overcame Rangers 3-2 to bring the famous trophy back to Easter Road.

“I know some of the girls  in the squad are definitely  eager to do it this season given the men won in it a few months back,” Heron said. “It would be so good for us to do it and top off a great year for the whole club.

“It also links the two sides together really well and hopefully people will take more notice of how we’re doing. It would be amazing to hold both trophies at the same time but we’ll wait and see who we get in the draw and take it from there.

“We never let up against  Renfrew because we’ve got such an important game against Glasgow City on Sunday, so it was important for us to keep the momentum going. I didn’t expect us to win by so much, but we had a lot of respect for them. They were a bit demoralised given the result but fair play to them as they kept trying to play their own game.

“I was happy to get among the goals again as I haven’t been long back playing as I took a break for a while when I was in America. I’ll certainly be pushing for a starting spot this weekend.”

Capital rivals Hearts are also through to the last eight, having overcome Hamilton 3-0 at Riccarton with Ashley Carse netting a brace and Kara Kidd also on target.

Hutchison Vale earned their quarter-final place with an impressive 8-3 win at Granite City.
