Hibs set to welcome back key trio for title race run-in

Midfielder McGeouch has been plagued by injuries throughout the season and hasn’t featured since the home win over Dundee United more than two months ago. He has now returned to full training and could be considered for a return to the match-day squad when Dumbarton visit Easter Road this weekend.

Hanlon has also been sidelined since the 3-0 victory over United in January after undergoing an operation to deal with a pelvic problem. Although his lay-off has been longer than initially anticipated, the influential centre-back is due to return to full training imminently and, all going to plan, he could be back in the squad for the top-of-the-table showdown with Falkirk on Saturday week.

Humphrey has been out since sustaining a injury in the opening minutes of the 3-1 Scottish Cup victory over Hearts three weeks ago, but the former Motherwell and Preston North End winger is understood to be closing in on a return to fitness.

Midfielder Danny Handling, who hasn’t appeared in a first-team match for almost two years, stepped up his bid for a return to action when he played the full 90 minutes of the development team’s 3-0 defeat by Hamilton Accies on Tuesday. Centre-back Liam Fontaine is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the league campaign with an ankle injury.

Hibs will be without top scorer Jason Cummings through suspension against Dumbarton on Saturday, while midfielder John McGinn and goalkeeper Ofir Marciano are set to miss the Falkirk match after being called up by Scotland and Israel respectively.

Meanwhile, Hibs’ home match against Raith Rovers has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 26. The clash was initially due to be played on Saturday, April 22, but that is now the date for the Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
