Hibs fans have been heaping praise on Ryan Porteous after the young defender was called up the Scotland squad for for the forthcoming play-off against Israel, and the UEFA Nations League matches against Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Robert Bald said it was “about time” while Richard Bell commented: “Great for the lad. But that makes it harder to keep a hold of him!! Could be a great leader and captain in the future if he stays with the Hibees.”
Alec James felt Porteous has been “the best centre back in Scottish football since this season started” while Jamie Burrell reckoned the call-up was “fully deserved”, adding “Paul McGinn and Nisbet not far away as well.”
Kevin Lorimer reacted: “Give him a chance as a sub great talent lot to learn and improve but definitely one that's going places big game for Scotland it's risky playing new bodies from kick off.”
Gary Dickson added: “Fully deserved, like his strong challenges and leadership qualities, just needs to be a bit mindful of some of his challenges around the box, can be a bit rash sometimes. But he will learn quick.”
John Mills said the call-up was “100 per cent deserved”, adding “cracking season so far but Hanlon should probably be there as well. Both been outstanding this season.”
Ronnie Mann was another who felt Hibs were underrepresented in the squad, saying: “Both Porteous and Hanlon should be in the team never mind the pool.”
Steven Duff hailed it as “a natural step up” for the young centre-back.
