JOHN HUGHES has emerged as the front-runner to take over from Terry Butcher at Inverness.

The former Hibs boss is believed to be at the top of Caley Thistle chairman Kenny Cameron’s wanted list and could even be unveiled as the Highland side’s new manager within the next 48 hours.

Yogi is believed to have edged in front of other hopefuls such as ex-Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels and former Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley, who is now manager of Alloa Athletic.

Hughes, 49, has been looking for a return to football since leaving Hartlepool in May – just six months into the job – after the club were relegated to League Two.
