Farid El Alagui’s late penalty ensured Hibs’ Development Squad emerged victorious over their Dundee counterparts.
John Black scored against the run of play for the hosts as Dundee held the lead over a strong Hibs line-up in Forfar.
Jordan Sinclair’s fine finish and El Alagui’s late winning goal, his third during his comeback from injury, secured the victory.
Hibs started the game on top with both El Alagui and Jordon Forster sending headers narrowly off-target.
It was Dundee who took the lead, however. Aaron Scott’s slack pass left Hibs exposed and although Lee Cameron had his shot saved, Black was on hand to bury the ball into the back of the net in the 14th minute.
Despite the experience in the line-up for the visitors they struggle to find a way beyond Calum Brodie, with Liam Craig’s free-kick rustling the side-netting and El Alagui, Boyle and Taylor Hendry all thwarted by the goalkeeper.
Ben Priest had a great opportunity to make it 2-0 to Dundee, but the defender volleyed wide of Kleton Perntreou’s goal.
The second half played out in similar fashion to the first, but it was after Conner Duthie’s introduction that Hibs unlocked the Dark Blues defence.
The midfielder picked out Sinclair who slotted the ball into the bottom corner after 59 minutes to haul the visitors level.
Hibs continued to turn the screw and El Alagui came close when he crashed a header from Craig’s corner off the bar.
It was a long wait until the 84th minute when Priest was guilty of committing a handball offence in the box. El Alagui stepped up to take the penalty to earn Hibs victory after two successive defeats.
Hibernian Development Squad: Perntreou, Dunsmore, Crane, Forster, McGregor (Stirling, 38), Scott, Sinclair, Hendry (Duthie, 56), El Alagui, Craig, Boyle. Unused substitute: Brennan.
