Ambrose has been without a team since leaving Derby County in the summer. He has been linked with a return to Easter Road as well as with St Johnstone.

According to the Daily Record, Livi have jumped to the front of the queue with Gary Holt keen on the 31-year-old. It would be a move which would see Ambrose link up with another Hibs fans' favourite Marvin Bartley.

The former Celtic defender, who has 51 Nigeria caps, left Hibs 12 months ago when he triggered a clause to allow him to make the move to England. However, he didn't feature for Derby then managed by Frank Lampard.

Another ex-Hibs star who could be on the move is 31-year-old Anthony Stokes.

The striker has been offered a return to Iran by Esteghlal having departed Turkish second tier side Adana Demirspor after a short spell.

Stokes, who had three stints at Easter Road, has a good reputation in Iran following a productive season with Tractor in the Persian Gulf Pro League, netting 11 in 23.
