Former Hibs striker Simon Murray could be set for a return to the Scottish Premiership following a two-year spell in South Africa.

The 28-year-old, currently a free agent after leaving Johannesburg-based outfit Bidvest Wits, has revealed he has held talks with three clubs from Scotland’s top-flight.

The former Dundee United and Arboath hitman is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury suffered last year but is expected to be fully fit in time for the start of next season.

Murray intimated that he has also also attracted interest from England but due to the current uncertainty over the coronavirus pandemic, he has yet to receive a firm offer.

Speaking to 360 TFT, he said: "I've spoken to a few clubs, three teams in the Premiership in Scotland, and there were a couple down in England.

“With the virus they can't put an offer on the table, but there's definitely interest there.

“We're just waiting to see what comes up in the next month to six weeks and see where it takes us."

The forward turned down the option of another year with Bidved Wits in South Africa, opting instead to return to his homeland for family reasons.

Murray scored 14 goals in 29 games for the Easter Road side, albeit eight of those goals came in the Betfred Cup, and spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Dundee where he scored three in 14 before returning to Hibs and being sold to Wits two seasons ago.
