Everyone connected with Hibs has played a huge part in helping the club through a difficult financial period with little revenue coming in due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The players, management and some staff have agreed to a wage deferral of between 20-50 per cent, while supporters have backed the club by snapping up more than 3,000 season tickets for the 2020/2021 campaign despite uncertainty when that will be.

One fan has gone that little bit further by sponsoring one of the players, using money he would have used for travelling.

Hibs fan Andrew – @budgiemcb on Twitter – revealed that after seeing a video of Jason Naismith scoring for the club against Kilmarnock earlier in the season and noting his love for the club, plus noticing the defender was without an away shirt sponsor, he decided to contact the club to do so.

He tweeted: “Between seeing this and then having a flick through the postponed St Johnstone programme & seeing @naismith_jason didn’t have an away shirt sponsor, was happy to use the dosh I’m saving from the Scotrail commute and sign up with @HibernianFC to help the club out a little more.”

The club and Naismith showed their appreciation with a video to Andrew.

The 25-year-old said: “Hi Andrew. Just been told by someone at the club you phoned up this week asking to sponsor me for the rest of the season. I’d just like to thank you on behalf of myself and the club. It’s really appreciated, mate. All the best to you and hope to see you back at Easter Road soon.”

Naismith is on loan from Peterborough United but is keen for the deal to be made permanent despite a year left on his contract with the English side.

Earlier this month he said: “Hibs are a massive club. When I signed it was the first time I felt like I was a proper footballer.

“No disrespect to Peterborough but I won a watch getting a loan deal from there to Hibs. I love playing for the club and was set on going there at the end of the season.”
