Hibs boss Jack Ross admits he has a goalkeeper dilemma

Three good keepers and not much to choose between them

Hibs manager Jack Ross admits he has a goalkeeping dilemma on his hands because he has three high-profile candidates battling it out for the jersey.

Experienced trio Chris Maxwell, Ofir Marciano and Adam Bogdan are all vying for the Easter Road No.1 spot, with Maxwell, who is on a season-long loan from Preston North End, currently the man in command of the gloves.

Israel internationalist Marciano suggested on international duty last month that he wasn’t happy at losing his place and speculation that he might be on his way out of Easter Road in January gathered momentum when Hungarian internationalist Bogdan recently returned on loan.

Ross, whose side host Aberdeen today, is enjoying having three proven goalkeepers to choose from, but admits it will be a test to keep them all happy. “There has been discussions with the goalkeepers in the sense that I speak to my players all the time, anyway,” said Ross. “They all understood that, from my time in management, I don’t judge players on what has happened previously, I judge them as I find them.

“What I’ve found here is that I have three good goalkeepers. Sometimes you will find yourself with one goalkeeper that is significantly stronger than others but we don’t have that here. We just have three good goalkeepers - which is a good thing but a challenging thing, because you need to make tough choices between them. They’ve all been good on the training pitch and what I expected in terms of their ability.”

Bogdan has a contract until January but it remains to be seen if the former Bolton Wanderers and Liverpool goalkeeper, who spent last season on loan at Easter Road, will have his deal extended. The Hungarian is yet to make a squad under Ross, with Marciano having been on the bench for each of his matches in charge.

“That (Bogdan’s arrival) was something that was in place before I came into the job,” the manager explained. “It just so happened that me coming in crossed over with Adam signing. It was pretty much the same day. That was all in place before I came in. It’s not been high up in my priorities of things to look at for the moment, not to dismiss Adam in any way. We’ve just had so many games. We have an eight-day break after this game at the weekend where we can start to look at things more closely.”
