Hibs chief executive Leeann Dempster has poured cold water over a report claiming she was a contender for the vacant sporting director's position at city rivals Hearts.

Ann Budge, the Tynecastle club's owner, is in the process of trying to identify candidates for the role which has been created following Craig Levein’s departure.

David Weir, the former Hearts defender, has been heavily linked with the job but one report also claimed Dempster was a contender.

The Hibs chief dismissed the story.

“I am sure they [Hearts] are as bemused as I am about where that came from,” Dempster said. “The internet can often run away with itself and there is nothing in that from them, I’m sure, or from me.

“It was just one of those daft stories. That is the void we are in at the moment and people fill the void.”
