Hibs full-back Tom James is poised to join Wigan Athletic on loan until January.

Hibs and the Latics are in advanced negotiations over a loan move and the Welshman is expected to be part of Wigan’s squad for their League One match at home to Gillingham next weekend.

Wigan manager John Sheridan is a keen admirer of the former Wales Under-21 international, while the English club tried to sign James before he moved to Hibs last year when Paul Cook was in charge.

James joined Hibs from Yeovil Town in the summer of 2019, penning a contract until 2022. He played under Paul Heckingbottom until the Yorkshireman was dismissed in early November and has since struggled for game-time, with Paul McGinn making the right-back berth his own in the past six months.
