Hibs’ new away purple strip has been voted a huge hit by fans with sales outstripping those for the home kit.
So popular has the latest launch proved that the Easter Road clubstore enjoyed a record day of trading as the away kit became available.
Sales of the home strip – which saw a return of the traditional white sleeves – have also been such that the Capital club – faced with “stock issues” across a number sizes – were forced to bring forward a second delivery in time for the new season kicking off with Saturday’s Petrofac Training Cup clash with Rangers. But it is the away strip which has been flying off the shelves.
Greg Mailer, Hibs’ head of marketing and commercial operations, told the Evening News: “We’ve been blown away by the demand for both kits but sales on the first day of the away strip were higher than those for the first day of the home kit. Queues formed from the start of the day and we ended with a record day of takings in the clubstore since our partnership with Just Sport and Nike started.
“Supporters had been calling for a purple kit for a number of years – that was something we picked up on through our discussions with fans. Promotional videos ahead of the launches of both kits sparked a great deal of interest and we’ve been blown away by the demand for both.
“We have deliveries scheduled for both kits over the next few months but we will be monitoring sales and adjusting them as needed.”
Meanwhile, Mailer revealed he expects season-ticket sales to at least match the 7500 of last season, anticipating that there will be fans waiting until the last minute before buying.
